AIS 140 GPS – Transportation is one of the fastest-growing economic resources of India. From which public transport is most used. But it is said for a long time, no security measures were taken for the public safety.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We have heard of many severe incidents in these fleets like theft, sexual harassment, and damage to fleet property. Many of which could have been prevented with proper assistance and on-time action. So, Security is an important factor for our country.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The government had been trying hard to find a solution for public safety. And finally came up with the solution of AIS 140 GPS.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s understand AIS 140 and its\u00a0Importance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

AIS 140 path to safety<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

AIS 140 is an acronym for Automotive Industry Standard 140. It is a method to\u00a0revolutionize and innovate the public transportation system in India.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Due to the increase in traffic on the roads, the Indian government has taken the initiative to secure public transportation with AIS 140 GPS. Consequently, this strategic move aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of the transportation system, ensuring a smoother experience for commuters. It is standardized by ARAI (Automatic Research Association of India).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It is now compulsory for all public transport\u00a0systems\u00a0namely buses and\u00a0taxis\u00a0as declared by the government.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Designed for vehicle tracking systems, camera surveillance systems, and emergency request buttons. This is useful for public and commercial users both.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This is a security aspect that ensures the safety of the vehicle and its travelers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Arrival of AIS 140<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We are all aware of the Nirbhaya case of Delhi in December 2012, which had a devastating effect on everybody\u2019s minds. After this incident, the government formed a committee headed by Justice Verma to find a solution for women\u2019s safety<\/a> in public transport. The government came up with the Nirbhaya fund for women\u2019s security.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Government-approved CCTV installation project along with the panic button and live tracking<\/a> devices in January 2014. Then MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highway<\/a>) suggested setting up a Vehicle Tracking and national-level vehicle security system for women\u2019s safety<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

BIS with ICAT and DIMITS drafted a standard with a formal AIS committee. In May 2017 the draft\u00a0was completed\u00a0and made mandatory for all vehicles and 1st<\/sup> April 2018 was the date upon which every public transport had to have AIS 140 GPS.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

And thus began the journey of AIS 140 GPS.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
